One Of Our Own, Returned To Her Birth Place
Great celebrations in Dominica this week as Baroness Patricia Scotland, one of our own, returned to her birth place, St Joseph, Dominica to thank the Prime Minister for nominating and supporting her to the very end.
I think that maybe they have learnt their lesson, having heard that this remarkable woman was the first black female QC , the first Black and the first Female Attorney General of the UK, aarpernter. Their was a mixed marriage in that her mother was a catholic and the father a methodist. and thanks to a papal blessing, his marriage did in fact take places and .later in the cemetry secured a spot to wait for his wife inspite of not being catholic.
I hope this year being mentored and encouraged by very able people across the globe will open her eyes and launch her into an exciting career assisting victims of Domestic violence and child sexual abuse in their journey through survivorhood to being advocates themselves. Baroness Scotland, the new Secretary General of the Commonwealth, born a Dominican, says "silence is a choice - speak out! Be more afraid of not trying than you are of failing. " - Go for it " Middle Tina" !
I have a vision of raising USD10,000 which would buy a wooden prefab house with an inside bathroom and kitchen. She has the spot and is going to get going, clearing it of the derelict building currently on it and getting volunteers to help dig a septic tank.
I don't know who gave the sewing machine to my Mum in the UK who sent it in the latest shipment of charity goods, but it was truly a blessing and will be used to generate income for this lovely family. And, most more importantly, she was left feeling God had not forgotten her. |
