I am delighted to report that it is now possible to get to Boetica and Delices villages safely. A Bailey bridge has been installed and is in use at last. Since the Boetica bridge collapsed during Tropical Strom Erika the villagers have been effectively stranded, dealing with the tragedy of losing one of their own under a landslide and having no vehicular access due to slides and cracks in the road at Black Star.
There was no way that heavy machinery could be brought in to clear the landslides and fix the access roads and several businesses have simply had to close. Access from the other end was through the evacuated village of Petit Savanne and so they were truly stuck. We visited two weeks ago for a 100th birthday and drove down the precipitous gorge in four wheel drive and prayed not to meet anyone on the narrow muddy road. ( see video) the only other way in apart from traversing the muddy track on foot, was on a precarious sling (make shift cable car!) (See video)
