I met a family displaced from Petite Savanne today where two sisters are now sharing a two bedroom house with nine children between them. They are longing for confirmation that they will be able to be allocated a piece of land and a Petrocassa house, donated by the Venezuelans.
One of the boys has Down's syndrome and the move must be disruptive and disorientating for him and so he has started having seizures. We were able to arrange for him to get a ride door to door with our Dial-a-Ride bus every day. We just charge what it would cost on the public bus which helps as no one needs to travel with him or go to collect him. However, I don't need to tell you that this does not cover the cost of maintaining the bus given to us by the Canadian fund for local initiatives in 2010! Four tires cost us EC $1000 today.
