The difference between now and Post Hurricane David is that now we are bereaved of our devices. As well as losing loved ones and precious things, we have lost the internet at most locations thus normal communication with our worldwide family of friends. We are a very connected society, and the effects of isolation has been shocking. Cell phone service is limited and then uncertain. Most cannot use computers, due to know electricity or internet. Many do not know if any of their electrical related items are even usable. For those that have generators, their homes rate for inspection to see the damage wiring can even carry current. Note that I am only able to get this blog post on our site by going to a location that provides sporadic “plug-in” electricity and internet connection for computers. When at this location I can quickly send e-mails to some including a person off-island that has volunteered to keep our website and this blog up functioning.
Here on Dominica , we are still greeting people when we meet them with, "How are you?" ...and meaning it. Then followed by, "Have you got a roof? Is your tarp leaking?" We will never be the same. I have a hundred stories to tell you of the actual night... of getting the vulnerable to safety... of visiting the British Passport Holders in cut off areas... of people stranded without money food or water... But hat is for another day... for now Dominica is surviving and I will report back in as I can... Please review our website for ways of giving and Getting Involved. WE SHALL RISE! Sincerely – Sister Tina
