Providing temporary accommodation and essential support services

to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
Supported by the High Commission of Canada in Barbados and OECS, Lifeline aims to provide temporary accommodations and essential support services to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
Survivors in crisis are provided with temporary shelter with safe hosts. Our hosts are trained in psychological first aid using the programme learnt from the International Medical Corps after Hurricane Maria. Survivors receive practical help, such as groceries, as well as emotional support through counselling. In addition to immediate assistance, social work support is provided through the Gender Bureau, ensuring that participants receive ongoing help during and after their time in the program.
The program is characterised by collaboration between multiple partners, such as an international funder, government social workers, private sector charitable discounts and donations and NGO facilitation.
The programme aims to help survivors escape gender-based violence and achieve greater safety, stability, and independence. Additionally, it empowers them to contribute to their community as advocates against GBV or as local business owners.
This scheme, using Airbnb for survivor-centred refuge, was highlighted by the UNWomen spotlight conference as an example of best practice and several other NGOs in various countries are interested in replication.
To continue this programme, further funding is needed. Feel free to contact us at +1 767 275 8367 or donate.
