RECOVERY... after Maria! It has been nearly 2 years now, since Maria’s devastating blow that occurred on September 18, 2017, Dominica, our once beautiful tropical island, remains in the midst of recovery. ​Our island continues to bloom again...

Facts:

• Many that were vulnerable before remain so... the disabled, the elderly, single mothers with small children, the mentally ill, and those with special needs.​
  
  
• Some homes are still without electricity; hundreds are still in tents and shelters 
  
  
• The homeless on the streets are increasing and the charitable feeding programmes have not resumed 
  
  
• Many private homes and church buildings still lie in ruins
  
  
• Umbrella NGOs are still struggling to reestablish 
  
  
• Entrepreneurs are trying to restart their small businesses are still servicing pre-Maria loans 
  
  
• Families and communities are physically recovering but are still carrying a sense of shock and loss - PTSD
  
  
• Internet is largely restored with What’s App the main communication media, but data is expensive and public WiFi unreliable
