Benefiting women who find themselves isolated, depressed or victims of abuse.
Peaced Together, Dominica, is a healing movement born in the United Kingdom which came to the Nature Island in 2016 through Lifeline Network International.
Peaced Together benefits women who find themselves isolated, depressed or victims of abuse and is suitable for women of any age. The undertaking utilizes a variety of five themed craft projects that encourage participants to reflect on their lives and set out on a personal healing journey from brokenness to hope. The 10 week course which also includes journaling, helps the group explore topics such as beauty, thankfulness and positive choices. Thanks to a grant from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, a trainer from Peaced Together UK came to Dominica and trained Sister Tina and a team of 20 to deliver courses around the island. The theme "broken is not garbage" runs through the whole programme which enables participants to make peace with their past and take steps of courage to move towards the peace that they hope for. In Dominica, the arrival of this programme coincided with the huge outpouring of anonymous disclosures to the Leve Domnik portal on Facebook during the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in November 2016. Broken individuals dared to speak out about their experiences of sexual abuse and many have taken up the offer of counselling, support and now, the Peaced Together training. |
